Nerdcore hip hop artist Doug Funnie says “the thing that separates me from the other “rappers” is I don’t like to put out things I’m not about. I like to give the listener a story or give them a mental picture to have them follow what I’m saying.” With beginnings in making instrumentals in Killeen Texas and later moving to Virginia did he begin to add lyrics to his beats. Now back in Texas, living in the Dallas/Fort Worth area he works with local artists to create his sound. Just finishing his new EP titled “Hardship to Triumph,” his next move will be to work with his hip hop band The Morning Circuit where he’s the front man and bassist to create an LP due out. Doug Funnie created “The Hip Hops & Coke” mixtape showcasing the DFW local scene of Hip Hop and Rock. Gathering influences from artists such as Eminem, Rage Against the Machine, Joe Budden, Bob Marley, and Timbaland, DF says he’s always “bringing them sweet beets (beats)!” He states that “Philosophy is a big part of me. I try to have other ways of thinking since there is never one way to do anything. A lot of poets influence lyrically since I believe hip-hop is poetry with a beat. Another influence is a lot of nerdy media like video games, movies, & comic books. You can find Doug Funnie on twitter, facebook and youtube under Funniemusic.
